The group meets Monthly on the First Friday from 10.30am
A new group for Stafford U3A seeking to open up, for members with hearing difficulties, more opportunities to impove
their enjoyment of U3A activities
1st Meeting 3rd November 2017. At the first meeting of the Deaf Awareness Group, we started, as always in the U3A, with coffee tea
and biscuits, and quickly got into the nub of people's issues. We all learned a lot, especially about the variety of causes of deafness;
we had at least six different causes of deafness within the room, and of course they can require six different solutions. Luckily we had
with us two very knowledgeable people who are able and willing to offer guidance and show the way forward to members who have struggled
along for years without the proper advice. They will be present at the next meeting, on the 1st December at 10.30 am and we'll be digging
deeper into ways of ensuring that you get the correct help from the NHS and other bodies and giving one to one assistance to those that
would like it. We'll also demonstrate the latest technological advances that are changing people's lives. You are very welcome to attend,
even if just to look on and learn. Looking forward to seeing you there.
Agenda for the first six months:-
1. - Issues affecting hearing and tactics to help.
2. - Hearing aids. Audiology. With speaker.
3. - Personal aids, Tech and loops. With speaker.
4. - Lip reading. Where can we find help?
5. - Sign language. Would it help?
6. - Small groups' session
"How do we introduce these ideas into U3A?
The group members can then assess how to develop the group, and perhaps look at other issues as well.
