The group meets Monthly on the Last Thursday from 14.00
Thursday afternoon is not a very good time for star-gazing! However we discuss what is likely
to be seen in the night sky in the following month, such as planets, comets and meteor showers, and
any general astronomy news.
A few members do have binoculars and telescopes, so during the month, if the weather forecast predicts
clear skies at night-time, we sometimes arrange to get together for a star-watching session - usually
at a member's home. We have also arranged trips to Keele Observatory, to use their telescopes.
Members are learning together and from each other. There will be a visit in April 2019 to the Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre and Gardens,
a joint visit with the Science and Garden Groups. For more information, see the Garden Group page.
On Friday March 20th 2015, the group met in a member's garden to watch the partial eclipse of the sun. As well as members watching the eclipse using eclipse viewing glasses, the image of the eclipse was projected onto a white board using half of a pair of binoculars.
The group visited Jodrell Bank in June
Transit of Mercury across the Sun, May 2016
