My Life - One Story at a time

The group meets 2nd and 4th Wednesdays from 10.30am

The idea is to produce a volume of life stories for the benefit of future generations, one at a time.
It won't be a creative writing group as such, although techniques and styles will probably improve as we progress, especially with the feedback of the group. People attending will have different ideas as to why they are writing. Some may wish to pass their writing down to children and grandchildren, which is probably why most are writing. Some may write just because they enjoy it. Others could write about their life with the idea of having it published by a publisher-and may well find one. It is quite possible to self publish some stories or even, in our dreams, to have a collection of tales professionally edited and sold on the open market.

You may not have anyone famous or infamous in your family, but what you remember about your family and yourself is still of great value. You might first recall some factual details about your past but if you can fill in the details with the colourful aspects of the story it will add a great deal of interest. Who knows where the adventure may take us.

What to include:

Once you get started you will amaze yourself with what you remember (sometimes early memories come back much better than recent ones). Remembering one thing will trigger other memories.

Bring a story to share with the group if you wish to. Don't worry about making mistakes in spelling or grammar. If they bother you, fix them later. The important thing is that only you know the most about your life and if you don't write about it, your children, grandchildren and others will miss out on the richness of your experiences.
